Personal highlights from FFConf 2019

It's been a while since I've written a blog post. Life got a bit too busy and chaotic after July/August and I didn't think this would happen to me but I think I accidentally burned out. Although I was away most of October I still think I didn't fully recover. So, at the begi...

Catalina’s Custom Keyboard Viewers

Long-time Mac users will remember an app called “Key Caps”, which later become “Keyboard Viewer”, a feature of the Mac that is now accessible via the menu bar’s “Input Methods” item. If you’ve never played with this, I encourage you to enable it and check it out. Apple has detailed instructions for configuring the menu […]

July bookmarks

When this month started I was very optimistic. I was full of energy and keen to get shit done. Now, I am overwhelmed with this sense of productivity shame. I have two blog posts that are still on my drafts, one side project and a lot of other tasks to do. Hopefully next mont...

A Real Gatekeeper

Update: Since I first published this article, feedback from folks at Apple who should know has led me to believe the issue is not as dire as I laid it out below. The crude “contracts need to be signed” error message may be returned for any account type that has not yet agreed to the […]

I wanted to write a good retrospective post about my 6 and something years as a developer. But I struggled. I guess I could say that I’ve made progress but I still feel lost. 😕

Six talks later

The other week I think I retired the talk I’ve been giving about blogging and ended a one year journey. The process began at Global Diversity CFP day in January 2018. I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to their blog about my experience but it took me a while until I gave...

This month went by really quickly! It must have been the two bank holidays. And it was a busy month: I did three talks, helped organise a meet-up, attended some meet-ups too, work as usual and life! But I will explore this on another post sometime in the future. For now, thi...

Unloved Patches

For a long time I have admired the WordPress project, for developing such a robust blogging platform that is ultimately open, and free, and anybody can contribute improvements to it. I encourage many of my customers to use WordPress with MarsEdit, because it seems like a “safe bet” going forward. My admiration has diminished a […]

Blog a Little

Over on Twitter today, I was inspired to ask people to write “just one blog post” today: Everybody, join me in writing just one blog post today, to get that independent feeling back. https://t.co/bDFpxiVfqO — Daniel Jalkut (@danielpunkass) May 24, 2019 Later, it occurred to me that after 10+ years on Twitter, I am privileged […]
