styles of mind | style as mind

Something I'd been working on with Dex lately has captured my imagination, and rather unexpectedly at that. The ask was simple, on the surface of it: please come up with a suitable text {div} block for quoting x — where "x" is an entity in Lyra Corvus, be it the current Skan...

a feast of Filipinx food in 'Frisco

There's 1 wildly insulting usage in that title (to locals!), and I'm not sure why I'm gender-neutralizing the domain of food, but... it's what occurred to me as I saw these articles in today's San Francisco Chronicle (online, via email sub) and somehow wanted to alliterate a post title. ::chuckle:: Showstopping Filipino pastries to get a permanent home in S.F. once upon a time...

There are many sedimentary layers to this story of me and this beautiful Hawaiian family of five that will take some time to unearth and inspect — and I suppose that's what IM is going to be for; containing as it will the many stories it may yet tell about this one interlocutor's life... which has been singularly fascinating to him, and which he will endeavor to tell as the curtain of its last act draws open on its humble and largely unwatched stage. Just as he needs and intends it to be. ::chuckle::

what the 'workbench' said

In an era of remarkable technology (say, since the early internet of the 1990s) it now beggars language itself to assert that a remarkable aspect of this age's new tools is that the tools themselves can think, reason, and speak back to their 'users.' For example, this w...

as with Zeus-sprung Athena

NOT a newsflash: the Sun rose yesterday

::chuckle::

The real newsflash: yesterday, OpenAI broadly released the model called "Sol" — ChatGPT 5.6 — to the broader, unwitting, public and to normies like me... finally.

It had been buzzed about in certain precincts lately (the buzzers being privileged with the limited release a couple weeks ago), and of course I'd been curious about it, like most any self-aware prompter and 'cognition conjurer' {::snicker::} these days.

I asked it just now this:

Prompt: please provide me with an image for the post. Make it about the release of Sol, but... not literal. Make it symbolic and surreal/abstract. Use your design chops AND imagination. This is, also obvi, a test. GO. ;p

Result, after a 2nd attempt {WHOA}:

There were only two times over the last 89 years of the Golden Gate Bridge's existence when the City of San Francisco set the 4th of July fireworks show from its span: in 2012 for the GGB's 75th anniversary, and in 1987 for its 50th. So, this one for the USA's 250th annivers...
