There Will Be Signs (260/365)

iPhone shot & processed Long day driving, lots of wind, but a few great signs. I wish I had more time to capture them properly. I can really see a road trip where the whole mission is photographing old road signs. May your hope be strong. “Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest — in the Gale — is heard — And sore must be the storm — That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm — I’ve heard it in the chillest land — And on the strangest Sea — Yet — never — in Extremity, It asked a crumb — of me. ~ Emily Dickinson 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾

Herald (257/365)

iPhone shot & processed Tomorrow we begin our journey South. Today was a day of favorites: coffee shop, hike, stores, and fish & chips. Prepping for an early departure tomorrow. Filled up with diesel, which has become painful at $7.00+/gal. Pictures from the road tomorrow. I hope you are reading a good book. If not, start one today! 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾

Life Finds A Way (256/365)

iPhone shot and processed Hikes, Bookstores, Farmers' Markets, Coffee shops. I’m in my happy place. The farmers' market was amazing. Over 100 booths and a little bit of everything. We found a proper used bookstore that was bursting with books, on two levels, with stacks all over the floor- how it should be, in my opinion. One of my favorite writers is Karl Ove Knausgaard, and I found a hardcover first-edition set of My Struggle. Sadly, it was missing volume 1, but that will give me something to search for. All the extra little bits down in Stray Pixels Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I hope you found some peace today in this hectic, out-of-control world we live in. 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾 All iPhone shot and processed

121 (255/365)

Nikon Z8 & LR Another day of bookstores and walking around. Found an incredible deli that made me the best vegetarian sandwich I think I’ve ever had, along with a mushroom soup that I’m still thinking about. Lots of signs today. Got pretty creative with the processing, pushing boundaries, and probably embarrassing my future self… Live large, make pictures, and use lots of vignetting! LOL 15 more signs down in Stray Pixels I hope you had a good day; hug someone and tell them you love them. Thank you for stopping by. 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾 Beer of the Day

Columbia (254/365)

iPhone shot and processed All film shooting today, so just a few iPhone shots to get the pic of the day. Found our best halibut fish & chips place yet, just about perfect. Spent a few hours in the local bookstore, which was a delight. Will be back again to spend a few more hours. Purchased two books and two magazines that are dedicated to readers and books. Explored the village of Fairhaven for a while and went to a local park for a hike. I could really get into this nice, simple lifestyle, LOL. Going to be hard to go back to work. 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾 All iPhone shot and processed Nothing good down here, just mostly posted for the sake of memories. A rare selfie just to document the first year my beard is totally white.

No Smokin (253/365)

Nikon Z8 & LR Good night’s sleep last night and a slower day today gave me time to catch up. Great coffee and a six-mile hike today; caught up on some shopping and chores. Down in Stray Pixels are the rest of the photos from yesterday. A couple of versions of “Keeping Watch”; the two people sitting out in front were just perfect. I really like the shot. 👾Click for Stray Pixels👾 Beer of the Day

Nikon Z8 & LR Outstanding coffee this morning from a local shop. You know it’s good when the line is 30 minutes long. Great hike up to a lake today and halibut tacos. It’s a simple life. Nikon Z8 & LR Processed Nice 6-mile hike along the waterfront today. Yet again, fish & chips for dinner and Lopez Island ice cream for dessert. Not a bad way to spend the day. Where the Ferns Grow (246/365)

Nikon Z8 & LR Outstanding day: 7.5M / 12KM hiking, surrounded by Mother Nature and all her creations, Amazing fish & chips in Bellingham, great conversations with some of the locals. It was overcast most of the day, but we ended up with blue skies at the end, all in a wonderful temperature of 68°F/20°C. More “making pictures” and hiking tomorrow. Deception Pass (245/365)

Nikon Z8 & LR Good day, hiking and shooting. Not ideal because it’s getting the shot right now in this light; we have to keep moving. No waiting for good light or for this cloud to roll by. There is always a price to pay for being on the move, photography-wise. Finally ...

Books (244/365)

Nikon Z8 Shot, LR Processed Easy 3-hour drive to Fidalgo Island today. Set up camp and went into town for halibut fish & chips, followed by the best ice cream on the planet at Lopez Island Creamery. 1 Nothing too spectacular on the photo front, but finally got the Nikon out. Click for Stray Pixels 👾👾👾👾 Ya, whatever ice cream you think is best, when you try this stuff, I’ll bet ya you’ll change your mind. They’ve had people fly across the country just for this ice cream. I don’t know how they do it, but it’s crazy addictive good stuff. ↩︎

Frosty Stand (240/365)

iPhone shot and processed Our longest day driving at 7 hours today. Working our way North still. Tomorrow we start the Westward segment to Washington. Happened upon the Frosty Stand today, and I sure wish I had more time for proper pictures. Just quick snapshots today as well. There is something special about these old abandoned businesses. A little piece of history, a little remembrance of better times. It always reminds me that nothing stays the same. Nothing. Everything changes. Everything we have, and everything we have built, will rust and decay. There is something very photogenic about them. I can see a photography road trip one day that just focuses on old buildings, decay, and rust. I can’t tell you how happy I am to be out of the heat. I hope it was an awesome day wherever you were. Carl's Burgers (239/365)

iPhone shot and processed Five and a half hours of driving today, no real photography time, just quick stops for snapshots with the iPhone. Today’s goal was getting out of the heat. Drove north as fast as we could to escape from 115F/46C to 79F/26C. It’s been a wildly adventurous start to the trip. Hopefully, within the next day or two, I’ll have time to write up the story. It involves heat warnings, 115F heat, no AC, late-night emergency callouts, desperate searches for a hotel that accepts large dogs, misery, sweat, $3500 dollars, despair, and then finally meeting wonderful people, lots of hope, and cold air. I hope today brought you something good. Thanks for stopping by. Click for Stray Pixels 👾👾👾👾

Desert Gold (236/365)

iPhone shot and processed I walked outside to bring in the trash cans, and wow! The sunset was just aglow. I snapped a couple of shots with the iPhone, ran in to grab a bigger camera, and it was already gone. It came and went really fast. There is something to be said for the phrase, the best camera is the one with you. No saturation boost or anything; I just darkened the shadows a bit and added some sharpening and clarity. Lots of prep work, cleanup, and busyness to get ready. Good day, but I’m just amazed at how sore I am. Up and down some ladders, packing stuff in and out, scrubbing, cleaning, up and down off the ground, and I’m so sore at night. I always think I’m in O.K. shape from swimming, but oh no, I’m clearly not. It reminds me that a workout is not just at the gym; normal work around the house is a great workout. Morning Glow (234/365)

iPhone shot and processed One leg back home is my favorite way to end a trip, even if it means getting up at 2 AM body clock time. Vacation is upon us now. Three days of prep and then a road trip North. I really gotta try to remember to post my daily pic while on the road; I fear distractions and long days will make me forget! Figuring out what camera gear to bring with limited space is always an exercise in wants vs. needs. Stopped at the local film lab to buy some film. Have I said how expensive film is? Sheesh, it’s expensive! Time for rest; packing begins tomorrow. Tell someone you love them today. And, as always, thank you for stopping by. Click for Stray Pixels 👾👾

Moody Morning (232/365)

Auto-generated description: A row of airplanes is parked at gates on an airport tarmac during sunset, with mountains visible in the background.

My view arriving at work this morning. Moody, tumultuous skies mixed with slow-moving thunderstorms, giving the sunrise a nice glow.

Writing this in Orange County with an 11-hour overnight. Time for sleep.

Hope it was a good day!
