You can now ride a Chinese EV in the US as Waymo opens Zeekr Ojai to all

Waymo is now letting all riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix hail its next-generation Ojai robotaxi — a vehicle built in China by Zeekr.

That makes the Ojai one of the only ways for an American to ride in a Chinese-made EV, a car they still can’t legally buy for themselves.

Geely prepares revolutionary 500 Wh/kg solid-state EV battery that could beat diesel

Geely says its next-generation solid-state EV battery will reach an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg, and it’s already running the cells through real-world validation ahead of a pilot rollout in 2027.

That number is the whole story. At 500 Wh/kg, Geely’s cells would hold roughly twice the energy per kilogram of the best lithium-ion battery packs shipping in EVs today.

VMAX VX2 Lite review: Power and full suspension fun without the heavyweight price

Electric scooters have long demonstrated an interesting dichotomy. On one end of the spectrum, you’ve got cheap commuter scooters that feel like they’re one pothole away from shaking themselves apart. On the other end are increasingly large, dual-motor monsters that weigh 80 or 100 pounds (45 kg) and blur the line between scooter and motorcycle.

The VMAX VX2 Lite aims for the sweet spot in the middle. It promises a genuine full-suspension ride, respectable 25 mph (40 km/h) performance, and up to 56 miles (90 km) of claimed range without turning into something you dread carrying up a flight of stairs. After spending time riding the long-range version, I think VMAX got surprisingly close to that goal.

Tesla ‘Robotaxi’ rams through bollards weeks after ‘impeccable’ claim

A Tesla “Robotaxi” running with no safety monitor onboard drove straight through a row of bollards protecting a closed-off lane in Austin, then kept driving.

The video surfaced Monday, less than a month after Tesla’s head of AI told investors the Robotaxi program has an “impeccable safety record” with “zero notable incidents.”

While no one was hurt or in danger in this incident, it is worrying to see an unsupervised Tesla vehicle ram through clearly visible bollards with plenty of time to see them and think about going around them.

Tesla’s Cybercab is about to launch — and we don’t get it

Tesla has told employees it is preparing a public launch of the Cybercab in Austin as soon as this month, according to a report from The Information.

It would be the first Tesla vehicle ever built without a steering wheel or pedals — and the least exciting vehicle the company has ever made, because it is virtually worthless without an autonomous driving system Tesla still hasn’t delivered at scale.
