⇾ The End of Writing
Reply via EmailLanguage connects us. Language connects one heart and mind to another mind and heart. Through space and time. Language transports meaning between minds, sense between bodies, it can make us understand each other and ourselves. It can make us feel what others feel. Language is a bridge.
Tweetbot Is Also Officially Dead Now
Craig Hockenberry being Polite
I bet this is a version where Craig Hockenberry had people revising a lot already. Still you can hear the frustration of him, when he has written the blog post.
There’s no sense in clinging to the personal whims of a clown leading a shit show. Especially when his circus will end up being a $44 billion version of MySpace.
As I have written earlier last week, I can’t imagine how the people behind Twitterrific or Tweetbot must feel, after Twitter, without notice, cut off everything – well, a little bit as the pandemic was for me and beyond tellerrand, what Musk is for them.
This, plus the massive amount of layoffs makes me think a lot these days. And I am sorry for all the people who are affected.
Reply via Email⇾ Conditional CSS
Nice post by Ahmad Shadeed once more. This time about conditional CSS.
Reply via EmailI like to think of CSS as a conditional design language. Over the years, CSS was known as a way to style web pages. Now, however, CSS has evolved a lot to the point you can see conditional rules. The interesting bit is that those CSS rules aren’t direct (i.e: there is still no if/else in CSS), but the way features in CSS work is conditional.[…]
⇾ 2337 Free Consistent Icons
I am an absolute sucker for icons, to be honest. And here is a set of open source free icons, available in variable stroke SVG format, web font, Figma, React, Vue and Flutter ready to use packages. 2337 free and consistent icons.

⇾ Some Really Nice Typefaces for 2023
I guess it is “for 2023” since we are close to the end of the year, but a lot of those typefaces are lovely in general. And I love the fact that one by Ulrike Rausch is listed here. ;)

Really interesting read over there at iA about pricing software. Furthermore you are able to tell iA how much IA Presenter should cost in your opinion.

Paypal Usability
Trying to verify my phone number on the German Paypal website …
Description: In the video you see a part of the Paypal web interface and me trying to click a link in a flyout-menu to verify my phone number, but before I am able to click it, the menu disappears.

⇾ Sketchnoting – Communicate with Visual Notes with Eva-Lotta Lamm
My friend Eva-Lotta Lamm just published a course about visualising information through illustration.
Learn to structure presentations and other content as well as take expressive meeting notes in real time by combining text and sketches

The course is on pre-sale right now for €19,90 instead of €59,50 and worth every cent. If you are into sketching and visualising your thoughts, you should get it. If not, you should also get it to get into sketching. Structure your thoughts, communicate with visual notes and learn new techniques, if you already use sketching.

Sirenia by Felix Braden
Once more Felix Braden has released a very tasty typeface over there at Floodfonts. It is called Sirenia and feels very organic.

The whole set contains 1270 characters and includes many decorative elements as well as swash variations. I really like the warm look and feel and can’t wait to give it a play for the right purpose. Maybe already for next beyond tellerrand in Düsseldorf ;)
But have a look yourself and see how nicely Sirenia looks and feels.

This was the first year back in New York after 2019. And here is my set of photos from Smashing Conference 2022 in New York.

Trailer 3 of “This Is What I Want To Do”
I can’t believe someone would ever create a film about what I do. Totally excited, but equally afraid to see how it turns out in the end and what the story line of the documentary is.
How that all started? Well, there are those two guys. Their names are Andreas Brüggemann and Stefan Nitzsche. They both are lovely people. And they decided to make a documentary about what I do – beyond tellerrand. I think that is crazy 😳. But also nice and I am humbled. And excited.
See Trailer 3 of the film here:

Totally forgot about the platform for a while. I had reasons not to be on it back then, but now Vero seems less broken than things like Instagram.
So, I am on Vero to post photos. Let’s connect!

ZDF Filmed a Short Documentary about Janis McDavid at beyond tellerrand
During beyond tellerrand in Berlin the ZDF has been in the house and followed Janis McDavid before, during and after his talk.
You can watch the short clip in the ZDF Mediathek and maybe you spot yourself in the film ;)

Why We Create Podcast – That was Fun
My Events Are My Passion
I just re-watched the two trailers that Andy Brügemann and Stefan Nitzsche released before the pandemic for their documentary about my beyond tellerrand (@btconf) events. And even though it feels strange to listen to myself or knowing there is a film to be released about what I do, I have to say, that I said many things that are still and always counting for me. I love to run these events from deep out of my heart and I am excited for what is coming. Despite the tough times all event organisers experience right now. Because the majority of people I know who run events, do it because it is their true passion. Thanks for each and everyone supporting this for more than 10 years now.
