I make software to interop. Working on a new web designed for writers and readers and in place of HTML we use Markdown. Keep it super simple. The big undo.

I’m an outliner coder, so I don’t use tabs neither, but if I had to choose between blanks and tabs I’d go with tabs. I’m an oldtimer and remember when a byte was worth a byte and I don’t abide by wasting one, never know when you might need one esp in dawg gone char limited bogus social networks.

it's actually always been time, the question is when are the users or the leaders among the users, see the sense in not being dependent on the people who are dragging us to the bottom.

This is why we need to reboot the original web, as opposed to the VC ersatz version of the web.

I always read your blog and you know I made sure RSS was fully supported as I rebuilt.

My license plate says WEBNERD for a reason and there are lots of us working on making the web excellent.

Louis Gray an old time blogger who went to Google, used their AI to resurrect his old blog which had disappeared from the web. Maybe he can convince Google to stop fucking with my blog.

Enough already about the former press secretary. Can we have more focus on Ukraine please? Who turned off Starlink. It’s far more important and consequential.

Expect an avalanche of new software because the dam has broken, one person who knows what they want, and understands UI design can make a big complex app in 2-3 months. Over a weekend you can snap together an app from common UI concepts. Think of making software the same way you play with LEGOs.

the only thing that matters in the ecosystem are the millions of users they've attracted, but the limits of bluesky prevent anything from happening there. i'm watching it too. they have to decide what their business is and get on with it.

I want us to make our own network. In the meantime they’re all the same junk including this one. They raised $100 million and the best they could come up with is copying twitter 20 years ago, which hasn’t done anything but lock users in.

Google thinks the web is like Android software where they can declare end-of-life because everyone who ever made Android software knew in advance that Google owned it, and this is what big tech companies do to their developers. You may not like it, but you have no cause to complain.

The web is different. Google didn't create it. It existed before Google by quite a few years. Google formed out of the early web, there would be no such thing as Google without the early web. They are guests on the web as we all are. And guests don't make the rules.

Imagine the web without the first 15 years of the web.

Thank you Google! 😡

I like the web for people, sites that live and grow, like people.

100 years from now you should feel the people who lived there.

Before long we’ll have Ukraine style drones raining down on American cities. Meanwhile we have built a military designed to fight WWII. We’d better hope Ukraine wins their war with Russia, and they’re still our friend.
