I’m very tempted to buy a cheap Super 8 camera (probably a Yashica) and I don’t know if I want to be talked out of it or talked into it.

It seems like all the negatives from my Croatia trip got lost in the mail on the way back from the lab. My best work to date. I'm very sad.
If you're using mastodon.social's web app, you may notice that the "Some replies may be missing" notice in certain threads is gone. Instead, you may see a "New replies available" button, as Mastodon checks for missing replies automatically now, based on work submitted by @jonny. Please enjoy!
Thank you to all who reached out; our team is aware that the new Turkish social media platform Next Sosyal is using Mastodon code without following the terms of the license and we have already reached out to them.
The second #Plushtodon prototype has arrived. They should be ready before December this year. I hope you're looking forward!

Please report any account that tells you that you need to verify your #Mastodon account to continue using it through a private message. It is a scam. We do not require identity verification. Real staff accounts either have a special role badge on their profile or are verified through the joinmastodon.org domain and will typically never reach out through private messages.

There is a new setting for server operators in #Mastodon 4.4, under Administration -> Server Settings -> Discovery, called "Allow external sites to see your Mastodon server as a traffic source". If you're running a server for a larger group of people there is no privacy downside to enabling this, and it will help make the fediverse more visible as a traffic source to the rest of the web.
Tell me something you like about #Mastodon 4.4.

#Gravy is trending today...
I'm struggling with the heat.
I don't know how recent this change is but I noticed #Firefox removed https:// from the address bar so now every link and every website I visit looks insecure. I know there is a padlock icon next to the address bar but it doesn't seem quite as easily scannable to me.
I got to spend two days in Madrid last week. The weather was not very conductive to walking around with highs of 37°C, but I got some shots that I liked.

Guess what! The prototype of the new #Plushtodon series has arrived. It will be available later this year in this and one other color!

We've published our new terms of service for mastodon.social and mastodon.online today, effective July 1. The same template will be available as an option to other servers in the upcoming #Mastodon 4.4 update. There are no changes to our policies or operations, just clarifications, e.g. if you upload content to be displayed to other users, you give us permission to display it to other users, but you keep all rights to it. We also explicitly prohibit scraping, even though it was never allowed.
As some of you may have already noticed, in the latest #Mastodon update, we've reworked the layout of the web app for smaller screen sizes. It should be easier to navigate and more pleasant to the eye. Let me know what you think!
Putting aside everything else that's wrong with streaming platforms, why is there still no "Report" option in Tidal or Spotify? A quite regular occurence is artist pages and New Releases playlists including tracks from impersonators with the same name. Absolutely no way to fight it.
Well, apparently my entry was not good enough to be shortlisted by the experts. I'm a bit disappointed, but the competition looks very solid. Maybe my photography just isn't there yet.
Apparently, if you have facebook or Instagram installed on your phone, #Meta was able to track your browsing habits and link them to your real identity even if you never logged in on the web, used incognito mode or a VPN. I hope Meta gets hit with every fine in the book.

When we released post editing for #Mastodon, we first released a version that supported processing and displaying edits incoming from other servers, before releasing a version that flipped a switch allowing anyone to make edits. We're taking an identical approach with quote posts, as the upcoming 4.4 version of Mastodon will begin displaying quote posts from other servers and software. Once this is widely deployed on the network, 4.5 will bring the long awaited ability to quote posts.
