Julien Baker - Appointments
Julien Baker is from Memphis, Tennessee. She released her second album, Turn Out The Lights, in October 2017, on Matador Records. The New York Times called her music "devastating" and Pitchfork gave the album Best New Music. In this episode, Julien tells the story of her song "Appointments," and how writing it helped her work through her thoughts around addiction, depression, and relationships. Julien also takes apart the track “Over,” which was written as part of “Appointments,” but then split off as a separate track.

🎬 In Bruges

Having just been to Bruges, it seemed fitting to watch In Bruges. I canconfirm it’s not a shithole. Fuckin‘ Bruges. That’s my kind of fuckin’film: quirky characters of a shady „occupation“, a bizarre yet coherentplot, with serious and funny elements, and overall very entertaining. All in just over 100 minutes.

Compared to Ana Lily Amirpour‘s other films, this was lacking. Somehow the setting and vibe didn’t get me as much. Worse dialogue, and too long. And I have to admit that I find realistic cannibal scenes quite repelling. I’d rather happily rewatch her other movies.
