One of the only live appearances by Public Service Broadcasting in the UK this year, the other will be at Ally Pally for the Race for Space 10th anniversary celebration in September.
Hebden Bridge
After a leisurely morning we headed to Hebden Bridge to get some brunch. On the way there we drove past the [Boxford factory](New Works, Burnley Road, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX6 2TF) that I used to work for in 2003-2004.
Once we parked up in Hebden bridge we found an excellent Taco place to eat. After food we went for a gentle walk along the canal and found a craft market.
Public Service Broadcasting
Public Service Broadcasting were fantastic, they played my favourite song They Gave Me A Lamp, from the Every valley album, with an appearance from the singer Haiku Salut.
Lessons learned from the problem solving of “fixing” a recent “broken record”. In summary:1. sometimes waiting can (partially) fix a problem or reduce its severity2. applying reasoning and practical math & science (e.g. mechanics & acoustics) to diagnose and take acti...
Discussed Venn diagrams with a couple of friends this morning, especially in the context of illustrating the utility of including all 3 or 4 of a specific set of design principles when creating certain kinds of things, and learned about the difference between Venn diagrams an...
Things I want to remember
I wrote this a few days ago, inspired by Things I Want to Remember by A Graceful Life. I planned to add more to the list but I didn't end up finishing it. With that said, I do want to publish what I have, as a little snippet of four things that caught my eye on one evening la...
Art, technology; change
When I started to study art history, I had a feeling that I may no longer spend as much time reading about and experimenting with technology. This has turned out to be true in many senses: I have spent countless hours reading textbooks and literary texts, and writing essays. ...
Links from this month
I have been saving a lot of links to things I have read and appreciated this month. And since it is Blaugust and many of my friends and other writers whose works I enjoy are blogging, I have been reading more blog posts too. I thought I would share an excerpt of what I have r...

First moments
When I got out of bed this morning, I felt a chill from the autumn air that had been flowing through the room since yesterday evening. The air was cooled by midnight and would soon be warmed by the burgeoning sun rising over the hills. The seasons are changing. I can feel it....
Parasocial grief. This week we lost a cheerleader. Days before that we lost a professor. A few weeks ago a musician. I knew of these individuals, had never met them, fairly certain they had no idea who I was. I was either a fan of their work, or sympathetic to their struggles...
Latest strange “AI” (LLM) behavior in the #indieweb community: the same entity that showed up a few days ago (for a second time) joined the IndieWeb Slack (a bridge to our IRC) yesterday, introduced itself again, and seemingly engaged in human-like chat behavior.https://chat....
Organising physical artefacts
I love admiring spaces and thinking about how they work but, when it comes to the physical spaces I use most or every day – my bedroom, my desk, my bookshelves – I haven’t spent as much time thinking about decoration. When an environment functions, I don’t often think about h...

Claude helped me
Claude helped me build a thing. There, I’ve admitted it, not that my use of LLMs has ever been a secret. But this was a big thing, a thing I could not have done on my own. I know because I tried, some years ago, and even with good help failed. Then I thought, I know what I w...
Tend To The Small Things
This is a 'title trade': where folks interested in writing collaboratively in a style I'd describe as 'alone together' trade a title for the other to write about. I've done several over the last two y...
