The 252nd Carnival of Mathematics

I loved some of the things Fractal Kitty rounded up, especially Hawzen's amazing effort to identify a fossil mollusc shell purely on the basis of gross morphology, here. I kinda sorta understand the maths, though not in any great detail, especially this:

Naturally, the distance between two shells s1 and s2 is squared euclidean distance between their contour points:

Naturally!

Is it the species they think it is? Who cares.

How to Prevent Hugo From Publishing Draft Posts Accidentally

How to Prevent Hugo From Publishing Draft Posts Accidentally

See how I added a pre-build step using a Bash script in my Hugo deployment workflow to check for the draft status of Markdown content. By using stricter linting rules than Hugo’s default draft behaviour, it can catch and prevent drafts from being accidentally published.

I have several ideas swirling around for projects I would like to see happen. Sometimes, these ideas manifest as a project. Wonders of Web Weaving was inspired by my interest in having more discussions about the indie web. Other times, ideas make their way onto this blog to s...

Testing syndication from idno, which had disappeared a while back. I wasn't happy with the formatting of the shared post before, so perhaps this will prompt me to improve that. No good. Reverting to CDN's fix

I embarked on trying to update a web mentions plugin for my other site, which uses the Grav CMS. I fear that the work may be beyond me, even with the help of an LLM, but we shall see. So I want to follow the Posse of Webmention Scratch-Builders even though I have little to contribute.

I do have vague recollections of caffeine being a sleep blocker rather than an arousal mechanism of some sort, and I have to say I have never personally experienced a coffee buzz nor coffee induced insomnia.

🎬 BLOOD INCANTATION - All Gates Open: In Search of Absolute Elsewhere

Movie poster for “BLOOD INCANTATION - All Gates Open: In Search of Absolute Elsewhere”.

They showed this at the local cinema, the Atelier. I always enjoy a good studio documentation - especially one of such an interesting band and one that's as well done as this one. And I'm very glad no one fell off that roof, WTF!?

🎬 Burn After Reading

Movie poster for “Burn After Reading”.

I wanted a Coen movie, I got a Coen movie. Absolutely hilarious. And another fantastic cast. They were all a delight to watch, but I probably liked John Malkovich's performance the most. Also loved the idea with the CIA guy reporting those summaries of what had happened. Clever and funny.

Researchers in Sweden optimised school lunches to reduce GHG emissions while staying essentially the same. Negative result very positive; no changes in amount eaten, amount wasted and meal satisfaction.
