Writing a blog post without a screen

This text below post is presented verbatim, as it was typed with only a keyboard: without a display or any assistive technology. Typos are left in. The "Notes after writing" and "My writing setup" sections were typed on my Mac as I prepared to publish the post. This is my fi...

Ideas for web readers

Every so often I have an idea for a feature that might be interesting in a web reader. I write down my ideas in my notes. Sometimes, an idea makes its way into Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain. Other times, the idea stays in my notes where it can breathe, mature, and m...

A computer that's just a keyboard, no screen

Oh you mean like with audio output instead

Nope. No output at all. Just input. With the keyboard.

Why

Short answer: why not?

Long answer: James floated this idea at IWC/BTconf of a PC that's just a keyboard for taking notes; and I said that's totally doable and probably not hard at all to do, since computers that are inside a keyboard already exist. So here's me putting my money where my mouth is.

Relevant note: Since taking the video I've realized the Raspberry Pi is completely fine with a standard 5V, 2.5A phone charger. It's a bit below the specs but it's not exactly doing much here. So a standard powerbank is completely enough and it doesn't need the fancy charger that came with the PC to make loud noises :^)

How I use my phone

In my last two blog posts, I discussed how I use greyscale mode on my phone and night shift on my computer. These blog posts were inspired by discussions happening in the IndieWeb community about greyscale, and now, more generally, how we use our phones. My phone, an iPhone,...

May the Focus Be With You!

Last weekend at IndieWebCamp I noticed James had setup his iPhone in grayscale. I think I first saw that on Jeremy’s phone years ago. I remember trying it on my iPod Touch for a while, eventually switching back to see color photos. This morning while chatting with Jam...

Using greyscale

Back in 2023 I challenged myself to use my phone in greyscale mode for a week. The experiment was successful: a week later, I was still using my phone in greyscale mode. At some point afterwards, I did disable greyscale mode. But last year, or early this year (I can't remembe...

Cover artwork. Green collard leaves arranged around the stem, seen from above

Collard greens are strongly associated with Black foodways in the US South. They are also valued in Morocco on the edge of the Sahara, although the outside world has only just found out about that.

That raises so many questions.
