Composite image. On the left a map showing the location of the quest and my position. On the right, the facade of the tobacco factory build by Giovanni Maria Mastai, Pope Pius IX, in 1863, an elegant building with a pediment supported by eight columns and, in front of it, a fountain with two basins, one above the other, and a gull.

A fitting rabbit for the Ides of March, the Pope’s Tobacco Factory. I did walk past, much closer to the actual Rabbit, but could not pass up the opportunity to snap what might such a significant building.

Ping! The WhatsApps that should have been an email | Tim Harford

Did I say that all these instant messages were like asking me to pick up your discarded chocolate wrappers? Let me change the simile. Your instant messages are like you eating the cheeseburger, while I have the heart attack.

Smokers Delight 30th anniversary show

Nightmares on Wax postcard given out at the gig, it pictures George sitting on a reel to reel tape deck beneath it reads 12th March 2026 Royal Albert Hall, Smokers Delight and In a Space Outta Sound

This was just a pure celebration of great music.

You could see this as everyone in the crowd was happy and dancing along. The range of ages in the crowd was huge, I was really not expecting this. It just goes to show how universal these two albums really are.

At the end of the gig, George brought all of his family and friends onto the stage and shouted out to everyone who had ever been apart of his life.

If you have never come across Nightmares on Wax, then you should really check out these two albums:

Baking for Friends

Joan Westenberg’s recent article The Noble Path has been getting a lot of interest from people who like and make software. My reaction was different. “Scale Poisons Everything It Touches” is definitely true of some of the projects I have had to work on, in agricultural devel...

Cover artwork: fresh yellow-green olive oil emerging from the centrifuge and flowing down a chute.

Extra virgin olive oil appeared in 1960, after a decade of scandalous adulteration. Then, it denoted quality. Today, not so much. “I would argue,” says Carl Ipsen, “that a bigger problem today than fraud is transportation and storage.”

Fascinating piece on how to really acquire ...

Fascinating piece on how to really acquire a language, which left me feeling more than ever what a pain it is to have always found Italian newspapers so horrendously pompous and verbose. I'd love to be so engrossed in something that I wanted to devour it, but nothing, yet, comes close. Suggestions?
