Getting My Own Site

The second step to getting on the IndieWeb is to have your own site. This is easier said than done, and there are lots of different ways of doing it. This is what I did.

Getting My Own Domain

The first step to getting on the IndieWeb is to have your own domain. I’ve already got one, so I thought I’d explain how I got it.

Announcing rainfall.scot

Earlier this year was drier than normal here in Scotland. If I recall, there was a period of about two weeks where barely any rain fell. That’s not right, I thought. In May, I was curious how dry it was relative to previous years. I discovered that the Scottish Environmental...

Working on the Artemis demo video (and captions)

This week I have been making several small improvements to Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain. First: the website now has a footer that links to important pages, from the privacy policy to the API documentation. Many of these pages have been added over time and, until no...

🎬 The Reef

Movie poster for “The Reef”.

Yoah… the acting was quite good, and I liked the partly suspenseful editing, too. But the plot is bonkers and for this to be entertaining, it's not enough action for my tastes.

This week was another Homebrew Website Club here in Düsseldorf. Mark and Jochen came around. It was mostly chatting about IndieWeb and AI topics, but each of us also managed to get some work done on one or more of our projects.

I, for example, published a new photo journal entry. And I registered that site with a WebSub hub and send out WebSub notifications for this new post.

I’m also having fun creating these little animated AVIFs of our little group.

What are the things on your bucketlist that being a billionaire would make no difference? When I was in Berlin at the end of last month, I was chatting with my pal Mo, and noted a sticker I’d seen that said “ELON MUSK DIDN’T GET INTO BERGHAIN” with a QR code that linked to: ht...

Autumn

With every passing night, I find myself thinking how the sun now sets a little bit earlier each day. Whereas the sun sets late in the peak of summer – at around ten o' clock at night – the autumn sun falls earlier. I notice change in the air as we move from summer to autumn. ...
