This, Still Not for Everyone

The new WebAIM Million report is out, the eighth annual accessibility analysis of the top one million home pages on the Web. And after eight years of data, the picture is as sobering as ever. In 2019, 97.8% of home pages had detectable WCAG conformance failures. In 2026, tha...

Nesting social posts under blog posts in Artemis

In Grouping link posts in a web reader, I described a feature in Artemis to show when someone whose website you are following has bookmarked a post by an author you also follow. The motivation for this feature was to reduce clutter in a user’s reader by grouping shares of a p...

Inventor, dreaming

And here’s a small favour I’d love to ask: If you’ve seen me speak and have a few kind words to share – a short testimonial about your experience – I’d be genuinely thankful if you wrote me. It would mean a lot and help others know what to expect. 🙏💚

I finally did it: I now have a speaking page on my site. 🎤🎉

If you’re looking for someone to talk about design, the web, CSS, accessibility, or the independent web at your event, that’s where you’ll find what I do, what I’ve spoken about, and how to get in touch:

Warm tea

I like to put my hands over the top of a cup of warm tea. I enjoy the warmth, and want to hold onto it for as long as possible. Whether I am holding a textbook or exploring blogs, if I have a cup of tea by my side I want to feel its warmth. As I write, I am sitting next to a warm cup of tea, resting on the arm of my chair. The vibration of movement as I type creates a gentle ripple on the water, a ripple that reminds me of the calm river where I spent time last weekend. It is amazing what there is to see in the ordinary.

Brainstorming web guides

I am interested in the field of content design, which thinks of information as not only what it represents (i.e. facts) but how that information is represented. The UK Government says: Good content design allows people to find out what they need to know or do quickly. When I ...
