Skies; distance

My words flow from the blank, full, blue sky that rests above – a sky in which the more I look, the more texture I see; there are ripples and layers and colours; the periphery of individual clouds emerge. The more I look, the more I see. When I am in art galleries, I see som...

August

The sun shines through the silvery sky. I look up and around to see where blue might peek through the blanket that covers the sky. There is one space where I can see shades of blue through the silver. I think about how the sky invites me to look up, and then around: to be cur...

Countryside; Blaugust

With the window open and the breeze flowing through, I hear the calls and songs of birds. A calling pigeon in particular stands out. I love the calls of pigeons in the evening. The sound reminds me of childhood, looking out the window, onto Nature. A flock of birds fly by as ...

🎬 Total Recall

Movie poster for “Total Recall”.

The sets, the clothes, the makeup, the props - it’s all a little goofy and overdone. And I think this fits the film perfectly. Because it’s not taking itself too seriously. It’s a great Akschn Fuim and simply entertaining from start to finish in all its 80s glory. No shit!

An Elaborate Excuse

This is my entry for July’s IndieWeb Carnival. True to form, it was written right at the eleventh hour (dictated, in this case.) I’m trying something new: drafting while I go on my morning walk. ...

Lousy Hotel Avoided

Last summer, I noticed an insect bringing a bit of leaf to plug the hole in a bit of bamboo that is part of one of those folding director’s chairs. Huh? A leafcutter bee, how interesting, and thought no more about it. I particularly failed to notice when, or indeed whether, ...

Of Day

I hear the birds singing as I sit by the window and look out on the horizon. I like looking at all the colours of the sky in the moments after sunset, when ambers recede and the sky becomes ever more blue before night time. I hear the sound of my fingers typing on my keyboard...

Lattes

I watched the movie "Valentines Day" (2010) for the first time today, which stars, among others, Taylor Swift. The energy in this scene (especially the enthusiastic and excited way in which the words are said, while Taylor carries a huge bear) 1 fills me with joy: [call out: "Save the Lattes!"] Taylor: They're putting lattes in the vending machines? Finally! Taylor: Robbie, I am so glad you are taking care of this. Robbie: You got it. Taylor: And, I like caramel lattes, just FYI. I am not a fan of caramel lattes, but I do love this scene! 1 1m06s to 1m18s in the linked video. [↩]

This was fantastic. It has a great crew with its space-movie typical in-fights and betrayal, stunning imagery, gripping action; and absolutely fucking golden space suits. I wish I could watch this in a cinema at some point again.

I just finished War and Peace, here are some thoughts

On my 22nd birthday, two years ago, I had a pretty pleasant day. I don't really remember what about it was good, I probably had an enjoyable task at work and a good time with collegues; and in my good mood, I also went down to the book shop right outside my workplace and picked up War and Peace. The cashier made a little comment as he scanned the book, apparently impressed or surprised.

Why'd I pick it up? Well, why would anyone want to read the book? Because it's a classic and everyone says it's good. Was it? Yes! But not in the sort of way I expected it to be.

This is exciting. Just uncovered my old Kodak Zi8, bought January 2010 and not used since mid 2011. Charging it up now and hoping to make use of it. I wonder if there are any mods.
