It's all very well having my own domain and online home, but an attack by malicious spambots is enough to make me reconsider my “freedom”.

One is also up against the plethora of tutorials and guides that are almost useless to me.

Nature

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is get out of bed and turn on my fairy lights. I read for a little while under the warm glow of the lights while the sun is not yet visible in the winter morning. I am reading a book about Nature right now – stories of walk...

Walden

I wanted to start this blog post with a quote. I started flicking through Walden, which I have just finished reading, for one that would be appropriate. But then I realised any choice would be arbitrary, for the wisdom is so deep within the book that any choice would leave m...

The United States Needs Fewer Bus Stops

Excellent piece, seemingly counterintuitive but makes a very good case. Rome has done a lot in the past couple of years to improve the bus service, not by removing stops, but by adding "platforms" that give busses priority, and informative shelters.

Machine knitting: a (c)hattie

In 2025 the folks at machineknit.community did a 12 Months of Hats knitalong. I only joined at the end of the year, and am still getting my practice in with a lot of basics, so I was a bit too intimidated to jump into any of these in the actual year of 2025. Ba...
