100 Things That Made My 2025 | Zachary Kai

Every year, Austin Kleon writes this post. A gigantic gratitude list for the past 365 days, if you will. In 2024, I also wrote one, though I only made it to 35 things. Still, a worthwhile exercise! ...

Machine knitting: sweater knitalong complete!

Yeah, I'm retro-posting. Hello from the future, ding-dongs! This post is part of a series, as I play catch-up on KnitFactoryImpl's knitalong of a set in sleeve crew neck sweater for channel members. In the previous installment, I wrote about failing to get a good neckline fo...

Designing for inactive users

Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain, is relatively computationally intensive in that every hour, Artemis checks web feeds to which users are subscribed to see if there are new posts to save and show in a user’s feed. I have made several optimisations to make this process...

Another occasion on which the Quest provided the kick I needed to go for a walk, to the bicycle location, as it happens, which was closer and a better walk than the foot location today.

Composite image. On the left a map showing the location of the quest and my position. On the right, A dual carriageway with tram tracks in the middle. Across the road, a sandy-coloured large building behind impressive gates and gate towers. The building is flanked by umbrella pines and there are several cars parked in front of the gates and along the road.

Yesterday was the last HWC of 2025. It’s been good discussions - as always - but we also collectively worked on each others websites. Mainly in regards to CSS.

The first HWC DUS in 2026 will be on Jan. 22nd.

Not disgusting, unfamiliar

Documentally, whom I have followed in various places for a while, alerted me to a museum that completely passed me by when I was in Berlin a few weeks ago: the Digusting Food Museum. I doubt I would have sprung for the €16 it apparently required, though I might next time if ...

Ground Down

Treasures of the Pharoahs is a stunning exhibition on at the moment at the Scuderie in Rome. Only a handful of objects, beautifully displayed and with glorious interpretation, unlike, say, the old Cairo Museum. One object in particular caught my eye. Yes, a woman grinding ...
