“A Little Island of Delight” – an Interview with Rainer Kunst for Vivid Magazine

I am not shy to give interviews, but most of the times someone asks me for an interview I wonder if anyone actually is interested in the stuff I am doing. I mean, what am I really doing then? I run an event. Nothing that is really special, is it? That said, I have learned t...

Earliest memory of coffee

Ruben invited me to participate in a blog questions challenge, noting: I suspect James would find one of these viral blog series easier if it were about books and/or coffee, but I’m tagging him here! He may do with this as he wishes. This inspired me to think of what a “cof...

Gardening, fruit and Nature with Sara and James

In today’s world, it is becoming more and more important to be embodied in the place we live in. To experience the changing of the season, the rhythms of nature. To feel the experience of place to our last nerve. And what is more indicative of nature as it exists in a certain...

Experiments (sometimes work and sometimes don’t)

When I write about what I am building with technology, I often love showing off something I made and explaining how it works. With that said, I can only get to the point of something ready to share after thinking, experimenting, and following the direction that feels right as...

I made a thing using CSS to display a four-image slideshow at the top of the Forkalyst homepage. I was (and still am) experimenting with positioning, gradients and animation. It took me longer than I thought it would and I’m still not 100% happy. But I reckon it’s good enough for now.

🎬 The Substance

Movie poster for “The Substance”.

This might be the most disgusting film I've ever seen. And it's not "just" all the guts and gore; it's all the food stuff, too. And all those close-up and wide-angle shots really emphasise it all. It's quite remarkable how this movie made me feel. And those makeup and "costumes": so good! I really wonder how this got so mainstream. Anyway, it's really a courageous piece, directing- and acting-wise. And it's funny, too. It's so over the top, it could not not be funny. The society criticism is not subtle at all, and I found this rather fitting. Writing all this, I kind of want to watch another round. But I'm not quite sure, if I'm courageous enough.

The joy of

The joy of: Walking and cherry blossom petals falling around you. Noticing how charming a building you have walked past dozens of times is. I noticed a clock at the top of a building that I have never seen before. Seeing someone with their hands up their sleeves on a spring day. Like me! Noticing the first red tulips emerge this season. Seeing people rest under trees in the park on a warm spring morning. Hearing talented musicians play acoustic songs in a public square. Seeing people smile. Seeing flowers in pots growing at doorsteps. The warmth of the sun on your cheek on a sunny day. Looking out over hills. Sharing stories. Conversations where you notice someone’s eyes light up. Hearing someone talk about something they enjoy. Warm hugs.

Morning CSS

Before leaving the house this morning, I decided to work on my website. I have 15 minutes before I leave, maybe I can fit in some web weaving. I worked on the mobile navigation bar. For a while, I have thought that the reading experience could be improved. There were lots of links; all the links were text. Last night, I reduced the number of links and this morning I added icons. I was writing CSS down to the wire. If I didn’t finish on time, I would miss my train. I had done some experimentation in the evening so I was as ready as I could be. But I didn’t have time to set the spacing between elements. By the time you are reading this, the mobile navigation bar will have a new, more focused design, with icons to differentiate links! Why are there no movies where a character has to write CSS in a hurry? To whom do I write to propose such a plot feature?
