Craft and Work London 2024

There ist my friend Keir Whitaker, who joined the beyond tellerrand boat roughly a year ago. The reason for this post: This time he is not helping me with my stuff, no, he is organising an event also. An event that is targeting people who want to know more about building better digital, and creative businesses and who are focusing on better e-commerce for example.

So, if you are a founder or entrepreneur, or someone running their business as a singe person, this event is for you. I myself am going to be there as well and am extremely looking forward to it! And as I heard, there are a very few tickets left. So better be quick to not miss out.

Time to Relax DUS24

Photo showing me on the right holding my wife Tanja in my arm and we both look into the camera, standing in front of a sun down.

Running events like beyond tellerrand is wonderful and even more that I can call something like this “my job”. But it’s also exhausting. You might think, once the festival is over I can relax, but usually there is a lot of work post-event to be done. Easily two more weeks full of stuff to say thanks, pay the bills and collect material and coverage etc. And yes, there is Berlin also, where I need to focus on to make it as good as the last one in Düsseldorf.

Therefore it is the best to have my lovely wife Tanja to remind me to actually take a break and just calm down, doing nothing but spending time in the sun, trying to process what has been experienced. We had a fantastic weekend and relaxed at the Dutch sea. Thank you Tanja! ❤️

🎬 Alien

Movie poster for “Alien”.

It‘s been a while; and I mostly seem to remember scenes from Aliens (Part 2 of the frnachise). But this was a great rewatch. I thought this aged extremely well. The menacing atmosphere, the sets, the sounds, the story. A classic for a reason!

Literatur & Livemusik 2024

On May 13th and 14th, I organise my annual stop of beyond tellerrand in Düsseldorf. If you are from Düsseldorf or arrive in Düsseldorf before you maybe want to attend “Literatur & Livemusik 2024” by my friend Lars Terlinden, taking place from May 9th to 12th. It offer a book market with more than 12.000 books, concerts and much more. Next to this you can attend a reading of Marcus Bensmann who reads parts of [“Der AfD-Komplex”](https://shop.correctiv.org/Der-AfD-Komplex/SW10118 ?ref=marcthiele). All readings and concerts are free to attend, but surely a donation is more than welcome! Any profit made is going into charity projects. Find all details here. Reply via Email

Der beste Satz, den ich heute gelesen habe:

„Es ist jedoch mathematisch unmöglich, dass die meisten Menschen bei einer bestimmten Aufgabe besser als der Durchschnitt sind.“

Ich lache immer noch Tränen! Danke, @Krautreporter

My Desktop

Dirk Hesse collects photos of creatives – and who isn’t creative – for his website “Le Bureau”. Mine was recently published and I wanted to point you to this lovely little project of Dirk.

He also invites to a short interview, for those of you who speak German. I like projects like this and it reminds me of those, where people show they favourite menu bar helpers, tools or what’s in their bag.

Thanks, dear Dirk, for having me at Le Bureau!

Eno.

A generated film that never is played in the same way, you ask? For whom could this work out and isn't that too chaotic to watch? Well, if your subject is Brian Eno and his life, it is absolutely fitting. Panel with Eno and the people behind the film At least the version I ...

Patterns Day 2024

Despite some personal problems within the family during my trip to Brighton, which made me worry, I had a wonderful time at this year’s Patterns Day. It was the third time this event took place and once more it was great to meet old friends and make new friends during the day. Took me a while, also because it is only 8 weeks until beyond tellerrand Düsseldorf, but here are a few impressions of how it was … Reply via Email

Forkalyst - Gemstone (live)

On saturday, our band Forkalyst played its first live gig. It was a sold out show at a popular brewery pub here in Düsseldorf. Lots of our friends came around. It was great fun. And I placed my GoPro on the stage railing next to me to record some of it.

🎬 Anatomy of a Fall

Movie poster for “Anatomy of a Fall”.

This movie is 2.5 hours long, but it easily managed to keep me engaged. I found this to be brilliantly told. You're constantly wondering what might have happened. And whether you can trust the suspect and her view of the story. The dialogues felt very authentic and all was brilliantly played by everyone involved, but I found especially Sandra Hüller's and Milo Machado-Graner's (who plays her son) performances remarkable. Extra points for authentic piano playing.

🎬 The Terminator

Woah, haven't watched this in a looong time. But this rewatch was totally worth it. Not much too complain about when it comes to action movies. The atmosphere, the action, that relentlessness, the music, the special effects (which hold up really well, I must say). I'll be back!

🎬 Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann

Movie poster for “Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann”.

Ok, I must say, this was a great movie to pair with The Terminator – which was the second movie that evening. Thematically very fitting, but not nearly as good. It certainly had some good ideas and scenes, but overall, I found this pretty slow-paced and too uneventful.

🎬 Blow Out

Movie poster for “Blow Out”.

I very much enjoyed this crime story. Super well told with a great cast. I enjoyed both John Travolta's and Nancy Allen's acting as well as their characters. I like how technical this was in parts. It has great humour (the scene with the auditioning scream-dubbers: pure gold). And is suspenseful. Maybe the ending was a bit too over the top, but otherwise: thumbs up!
