🎬 Dream Scenario

Movie poster for “Dream Scenario”.

Very original and entertaining story. Nic Cage is great once more. The last quarter was not quite up to par with the rest; but other than that, very much recommended.

🎬 Fabian: Going to the Dogs

Movie poster for “Fabian: Going to the Dogs”.

Stilistisch und schauspielerisch super. Die Story hat mich aufgrund ständiger Umwege etwas liegengelassen. Aber das ist vielleicht auch so beabsichtigt. Interessantes Ding.

A Film About Me and What I Do – I am Afraid

A statement upfront: by the time writing these lines, I haven’t seen anything from the documentary apart of the three trailers on YouTube It must have been end of 2018 or maybe beginning 2019 that Stefan Nitzsche approached me with the idea of creating a documentary about be...

How Do You Turn a Conference Into a Festival, Marc Thiele?

I often get asked “What is the secret to a successful event?” and surely you first have to define what “success” means in this context. Mostly, when asking me, the asking person means the fact that past attendees speak about my event as a friendly event with a special atmosp...

🎬 They Live

Movie poster for “They Live”.

A great movie to end the year. Loved how the whole put-those-sunglasses-on-to-see-the-truth stuff was done. Fantastic and suspenseful story, good score, nice action with a hilarious fight scene in the middle. Saw this at the local cinema, which made this a little more special even.

🎬 The Prowler

Movie poster for “The Prowler”.

Solid old-school slasher. Could have had some more explanation of the motive for me, but that's about it regarding criticism. The special effects of the kills are ones of the best I've seen. And it has otherwise good action, a good cast, and some good humour.

🎬 Talk to Me

Movie poster for “Talk to Me”.

This was good! It's a bit like Flatliners meets The Sixth Sense. It was suspenseful, had great acting, great pace, and a real good story (although, I didn't fully get it (,yet?)). It's one of the better newer horror movies for sure. And I'd watch it again.

🎬 Asteroid City

Movie poster for “Asteroid City”.

Well, Mr. Anderson! This is another fine film you made here. And luckily for me, the pace is not as high as his previous effort, which makes this much easier to follow. It's still a raid on your eyes and ears, though. But in a good way. But I always feel, one has to watch his film multiple times to have a chance to fully appreciate them.

Once more, the set, costumes, characters, dialogues, his signature camera work are all top-notch again. It's really neat.

Liked how the photo camera of the main character had audible long exposure times where it made sense. And there's a million other things to like. But that makes it also a bit exhausting. I'd still watch it again!

🎬 Christmas Bloody Christmas

Movie poster for “Christmas Bloody Christmas”.

Well, the first half is actually pretty good, where everyone's mostly talking. And the scene with the first kills is fantastic. And visuals and music are great (and one of the trademarks of this film, I'd say). But then it goes downhill. The action is not very inspired. The end drags on forever, and even the music in becomes cheesy. Meh…

🎬 Gremlins

Movie poster for “Gremlins”.

Now that's a good Christmas movie! I'm not sure, if I've even seen this before. The Gremlins are very well done. It's funny and gruesome. I have no regrets and would watch it again.

🎬 Fargo

Jeez! Really super. A little strange maybe – in a general kind of way.

Seriously, this is damn good. I'm sure, I have watched Fargo before, but I really had no recollection. And it surprised me again how good this is. The dialogues, the cast, the plot. Everything's great here. It feels like every five minutes the story escalates. And – oh my – feeding his partner into a wood chipper in the end. Uff…

🎬 Body Double

Movie poster for “Body Double”.

This is a lot like a Hitchcock movie. But more funny, more absurd with more wacky characters. But still with a lot of suspense and a good story. Is it better than the Hitchcock counterparts? I don’t know. But it was a very enjoyable watch.

🎬 The Tenant

Movie poster for “The Tenant”.

I thought this looks very good, has good atmosphere, has humor, and throughout quite a few good moment. The end is great, too. But overall, this didn’t entertain me all that much. I found it too long and his co-workers super annoying (without adding much to the plot).

🎬 Repulsion

Movie poster for “Repulsion”.

I think this must be one of those movies that introduced certain scenes and props. Liked it, especially how everything escalates in the end and how the increasing phobia is played by Catherine Deneuve.

⇾ 9 Questions For ... Marc Thiele

A few weeks ago Keir Whitaker, good friend of mine and also part of beyond tellerrand since a couple of months (well he always has been somehow), threw 9 questions my way. I like to answer these kinds of questions, as I mostly learn something about myself while answering them.

He says:

“9 Questions For…” is an interview series in which I ask founders and solo entrepreneurs to share their experiences of doing “their thing, their way”. The questions might be the same but the insights certainly aren’t!

Well, and here are my answers to those 9 questions

🎬 Fall

Movie poster for “Fall”.

Two women and their breasts get into a precarious situation high above the ground. It gets points for its vertigo-inducing scenes (although, too much CGI), the suspense and that plot twist. But otherwise it's a bit of an eye-roller.
